Access covered by the West MacDonnell National Park, vehicle access is via Larapinta Drive and Namatjira Drive.

West from Alice Springs, there is a new unsealed Mereenie Loop Road connecting Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon) with the West MacDonnell Park from the direction of Uluru National Park to the southwest.

Simpsons Gap West MacDonnell Ranges: There are a number of walks you can do from around Simpson Gap such as the Ghost Gum Walk Ghost Gum Walk is a 15 minute return walk which includes an ancient Ghost Gum. Rock-wallabies are often seen here, especially in the late afternoon.

The Park is best seen on foot and several walking tracks give a choice of a short or longer walk. The long-distance Larapinta Trail can be joined from here. Range guided tours are available daily. For bookings phone (059) 55 0310. The park is open from 8 am to 9 pm daily.

Albert Namatjira

The Hermannsburg Lutheran Mission was the home of the famous Aboriginal artist, Albert Namatjira.

It is best known as the birthplace of artist Albert Namatjira whose house, three kilometres west of Hermannsburg on Areyonga Road , is today open to visitors.

Trephina Gorge Nature Park

One of the largest existing Ghost Gums can be found close to Trephina Gorge in Trephina Gorge Nature Park in the Northern Territory Australia.

There Situated 85km east of Alice Springs, the Park is accessible to all vehicles. Access is via the sealed Ross Highway, then a 9km drive into Trephina Gorge, the last 5km on a gravel road.

The John Hayes Rockhole track within the Park is recommended for 4WD vehicles only. Infrequent heavy rains may cause all roads to become impassable.

Trephina Gorge Nature Park lies in the East MacDonnell Ranges, 85 kilometres east of Alice Springs, and is notable for its sheer quartzite cliffs, Red River Gums and sandy creek bed. Trephina Gorge is one of two gorges that intersect the range.
