A tourist selfdrive tourist guide and travel information

Glen Helen ReaortSituated at the Western end of the spectacular West MacDonnell Ranges, Glen Helen Resort is the climax to an adventurous and colourful drive, a little over an hour from Alice Springs.

Glen Helen is surrounded by the majestic MacDonnell Ranges, and is a destination in its own right, with easy day trip access to the whole West MacDonnell National Park, including Palm Valley, Hermannsburg, Ormiston Gorge, Redbank Gorge and Mt Sonder. A one night stay is never enough.

Glen Helen ReaortOur specialty is good old fashioned Australian hospitality, and you can look forward to a warm welcome. The Glen Helen Homestead captures the authentic Outback style. This restored and enlarged Station Homestead has a charming atmosphere, with photos of the surrounding natural features and memorabilia of the early years of the business.

The configurations offered are either queen and single bed or queen and double bunks, enabling up to 4 persons per room. All rooms offer close access to lovely views of the Glen Helen Gorge.

Glen Helen The motel surrounds an inviting swimming pool, and is also less than 10 minutes walk from the stunning Glen Helen Gorge Water Hole, which has water in it year round and is superb and safe for swimming.

Guests are often rewarded with sightings of wildlife including many bird species, rock wallabies, dingoes, lizards, and hosts Colin and Shelagh can help with many identifications.

Glen Helen The Internationally renowned Larapinta Trail is right on our doorstep, making it possible to walk sections during the day while sleeping in a comfortable bed at night. Situated in the heart of Central Australia, the Larapinta Trail extends over 223 kilometres along the backbone of the West MacDonnell Ranges.

This exciting long distance walking track is divided into 12 sections, each a 1-2 day walk. The Trail encompasses some of the key attractions of the Ranges including Simpsons Gap, Ellery Creek Big Hole, Ormiston Gorge and Glen Helen. The Trail also links in with other walking tracks within the West MacDonnell National Park, allowing side trips to explore more of what the Park has to offer.

Camping

Glen Helen ReaortCamping at Glen Helen is relaxed, and you will be able to enjoy great views of the fantastic cliffs of the Glen Helen Gorge from your campsite. We encourage you to stay several days to soak up the scenery of the West MacDonnell National Park.

Glen Helen offers Powered sites with a flexible configuration. There are sites to suit all types and sizes of vehicles. Plenty of grass, watered with recycled water is available to pitch your tents or swags, and most grass areas are supplied with fire pits. To use these you need to bring your own wood, collected from outside the Resort and outside the National Park.

Bathroom facilities are currently beginning a planned upgrade, and other facilities are constantly being improved.

While camping with us, you can enjoy hot showers, use of a free barbeque and gas cooker and fridge/freezer, swim in the swimming pool or the Glen Helen Gorge, relax in the homestead at the bar or in the restaurant, and enjoy free live entertainment 5 nights per week between April and November.
