A tourist selfdrive tourist guide and travel information

The station lies 36 kilometres from the magnificent Kings Canyon (Watarrka) and is set amongst majestic desert oaks. Kings Creek Station is a working cattle/camel station with facilities for camping, accommodation and an opportunity to experience the outback either by quad (4 wheel motorbike), helicopter or camel.

Macdonnell Ranges

Kings Creek can be reached from a number of roads. Travelling from Alice Springs you have 3 options. You can travel via the Mereenie Loop Road, the Ernest Giles Road (both dirt and approximately 300kms from Alice Springs), or the Luritja Road via Lasseter Highway (sealed and 450kms from Alice Springs).

If travelling from Ayers Rock or Erldunda on the Lasseter Highway the turn off is at the Luritja junction. Distance from Ayers Rock is 300kms. Before travelling on the dirt roads it is highly recommended to check the conditions of the roads before your journey.

Safari Cabins Located against the backdrop of the George Gill Ranges, our unique safari cabins offer comfortable and affordable accommodation. Kings Creek Safari Cabins are permanent canvas cabins constructed of steel frames, solid floors and lockable doors. Featuring light and power the cabins are twin share with all linen provided.

There are shared toilet and shower facilities, kitchen, grassed picnic area and swimming pool. The kitchen provides tea & coffee facilities, fridge and gas BBQ; perfect if you want to prepare your own meal!

Alternatively order from our extensive menu, which caters for all budgets and tastes. BBQ packs are available at the shop along with bottled wine and beer. Cabins are provided on a bed and breakfast basis. The Bushman's style breakfast consists of: bacon & eggs, toast and tea & coffee.

Kings Creek Station has a formed airstrip, suitable for small aircraft, and is the only emergency airstrip in the area. Transfers to and from the airstrip can be arranged by calling 08 89 567474

For visitors wishing to know the location of the airstrip the details are as follows:-

The airstrip is 1600 metres long.

Visitors wishing to visit the canyon can either hire our coaster and driver - or alternatively pick up a tour coach leaving from Kings Creek at 8.30 a.m. each morning - and returning at approx. 2.00 p.m. Arrangements for tour coach can be made with AAT Kings Yulara on (08) 8956 2171.
