Harts Range
Bush Sports Weekend
200 kilometres
north east of Alice Springs, is the home of the
annual Harts Range Bush Sports Weekend. This action-packed
event starts off Saturday morning with a gymkhana.
At 11.00am sees the first running of the Harts
Range Races - unregistered horse races for local
station riders. Two more races follow with breaks
in between for Truck Tyre Races and the auctioning
off of the horses for the third race - their Selling
Race. By about 1pm the rodeo commences with Lizard
Race, steer ride, station buckjump, novelty events
and the first round of the bull ride and saddle
bronc. The evening concludes with a themed dance.

The Harts Range
Bush Sports Weekend is a great family outback
event. Held annually at the Harts Range Racecourse,
set in the majestic East MacDonnells area, is
the ‘Harts Range Bush Sports Weekend’ aka ‘Harts
Range Races’. The NT August Picnic Races Public
Holiday stem from this 60yr old tradition started
at the Harts Range Racecourse, 215km East of Alice
Springs on the Plenty Highway.
Sunday morning
is for the kids with running races, a lolly scramble,
sack races and adult’s tug-o-war. The afternoon
is packed with more rodeo and novelty events including
the second round of the bull ride and saddle bronc.
Later in the day teams of three attempt to 'scruff'
a calf, as well as milk a wild cow. Sunday night
there is a dance and talent quest.
Camping facilities,
showers and toilets are available, entry and camping
fee applies. Please 'bring your own' as there
are no bar facilities. The food canteen will be
available all weekend. The community (Atitjere)
shop is open for trading part of the weekend selling
fuel, groceries and more.
Over 2 days of
fun for all the family. Gymkhana, Stockhorse Races,
Sports events including Running Races, Novelty
Races for kids, Lizard Race, Ladies Cow Tail Toss,
High Jump, Tug O War. Playgroup Activities and
Jumping Castle for the little ones.

a tie).
Talent Quest:
Sunday Evening.

public transport to and from the races, please
email us info@hartsrangeraces.org.au as early
as possible with your requirments (eg. I would
need swag/meals provided for or self sufficient).
The club will then attempt to contract a bus company
for transport, but this will depend on numbers.

How to Get
There
Gemtree is the
gateway to the ancient gem fields of Central Australia.
Experience the thrill of fossicking for your own
gems - hidden by mother nature for millions of
years!
Gemtree is located
140kms North-East of Alice Springs, with
bitumen road to the front gate! 5-10Klm
past gemtree the roads reverts to a narrow unsealed
road.
Travel northbound
70 kilometres from Alice Springs and turn right
onto the Plenty Highway and travel for another
70 kilometres.

Visitor Facilities
A true oasis in
the mulga country of the East MacDonnell Ranges,
incorporating 100 hectares, Gemtree is the gateway
to the Central Australian gemfields and offers
a spacious bush setting with modern clean amenities.
Other facilities such as laundry and store are
also available. Gemtree has a choice of accommodation
options to suit your needs. Bookings are essential
so give them a call.
After a day of
fossicking on tour, relax under the stars around
your campfire. Wood is available and there are
fire pits and barbecues generously located throughout
the park. Secluded bush camping sites provide
the feeling of being the only people around whether
you bring your own caravan or tent, or stay in
those provided for you. Alternatively, Gemtree's
cabins offer extra comfort to ensure your experience
will be memorable.
Recreational Activities
- Campfires
are a feature of Gemtree nights under the stars,
and fireplaces are scattered throughout the caravan
park, some with hot plates. If you wish to have
access to a fire place or hot plate, please request
this when you book. Each fireplace is placed centrally
between a few sites to encourage guests to share
and mingle. A glowing campfire is an open invitation
to stop and say G'day! Firewood is available for
your use for a small fee.

Unpowered Sites
AUD $10.00 to $20.00 - Secluded unpowered sites
are located close to shared facilities and provide
great camping sites whether using a Gemtree tent
or your own. Please note rental of tents are at
an extra cost.
16 Hour Generator
Powered Sites
AUD $24.00 to $24.00 - The powered sites are scattered
among the mulga and located close to the shared
facilities, providing power for the on-site caravans
and tents, or your own. Please note rental of
onsite caravans and tents are at an extra cost
and portable generators are not permitted – allowing
you to enjoy the night silence.

Pets Pets are
welcome at Gemtree
Please mention your pet when you book so we can
place you accordingly. Please pick up after your
pet and keep them on a leash in the park, but
we do have 250 acres, so there is plenty of space
to take them for a run!
Children
Gemtree is the ideal destination for family fun.
There are a number of ‘kid-friendly’ activities
on offer at Gemtree, and our spacious park ensures
your children can play freely without disturbing
other guests.
